FAQ'S

  • What is anaerobic digestion?
Anaerobic digestion is the natural process in which microorganisms break down organic matter in the absence of air (an anaerobic environment). Anaerobic digestion creates usable products such as biogas and digested material. 1
  • What is an anaerobic digester?
An anaerobic digester is simply a vessel or structure that allows the anaerobic digestion to take place in a controlled environment. SROM’s VS Digester uses the most advanced anaerobic digester system available. CH Four Biogas designs and engineers a custom mesophilic digester for each project. This custom system collects methane biogas under a membrane roof. The biogas is then cleaned and shipped for injection into the natural gas pipeline.
  • How does SROM help alleviate California’s methane problem on dairies?
According to UC Davis Professor Frank Mitloehner, California’s dairy industry has substantially decreased the release of methane due to the capture and upcycling of methane gas and other projects that reduce the release of methane. 2 SROM’s system captures dairy methane once destined for the atmosphere and reuses it for vehicle fuel, heating, and electricity.
  • Is there are demand for Biogas in California and the United States?
Yes. Research indicates that there is a growing demand for Biogas in applications, such as cooking gas, electricity, vehicle fuel, and heat.
  • How does the use of Biogas help the environment?
Using biogas decreases the need to use fossil-based fuels.

  • What other issues are addressed by SROM’s anaerobic digestion system?
Lower cost bedding generation from their anaerobically digested manure Low nutrient water for use as flush water in their barns Clean water for land irrigation Odor reduction
